Special Co-ordinator calls for speedy admission of Romania and Bulgaria into NATO

Speaking at the Center for Strategic & International Studies in Washington D.C., the Special Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact, Erhard Busek said: “We now have reached the point where an admission of Romania and Bulgaria into NATO is not only in the interest of the stability in the two countries concerned, but equally so in the interest of the stability of South Eastern Europe as a whole. I call upon NATO member states to carefully consider this step in the next round of NATO enlargement and to admit the two Southeast European nations as soon as conditions permit.” Busek spoke at the CSIS on the occasion of his fist visit to Washington D.C. in his new capacity as Stability Pact Co-ordinator. His visits include meetings with high-ranking officials of US State Department, Department of Treasury, the National Security Council and meetings with World Bank Vice President Johannes Linn and Regional Director Christiaan Poortman.
